Lemon Balm: Calm & Strong
A calming nervine, nourishing to the nervous system, and strengthening to digestion and the overall immune system.
What is Lemon Balm?
Lemon balm is a perennial plant in the Lamiaceae family, botanical name Melissa officinalis. It grows freely in sandy, loamy soils and in the woods of Europe, Britain, North Africa, Western Asia and across the United States. It produces a beautiful, white, two-petal flower during the summer months.
Lemon balm has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-depressant, anti-oxidant, neuro-protective, radio-protective, hypotensive, and anti-spasm properties. It's a nervine which means it nourishes the nervous system, and over time, naturally calms and grounds those who consume it.
Historical Use
Lemon balm has traditionally been used as a carminative for digestive disorders, a very mild sedative for sleep disorders / insomnia, a nervine for anxiety, for muscle tension and soreness, headaches, toothaches, heart palpitations, tachycardia, hyper-thyroid, high blood pressure, stomachaches (a favorite amongst children), asthma, urinary incontinence, viral illnesses (i.e., herpes), poor memory, insulin resistance / blood sugar support and much more. It is calming, nutritious, supportive of digestion, strengthening to the immune system and more.
Lemon balm contains various vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients including vitamin C, A, E, K, B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, potassium, manganese, zinc & more.
