Ingredients: Spirulina (arthrospira platensis), Certified Organic, CoO: India, never China. Tested three times for impurities and toxins before released to consumer.

Serving Size: 1 - 2 tbsp (approx 10-20 g) daily, per 1,000 lb horse

What is Spirulina?

A type of blue-green algae (Arthrospira platensis), spirulina is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, carotenoids and antioxidants which can help protect cellular integrity. Cultivated worldwide as a food source, it has a spiral shape and is approximately 3.6 billion years old. Advocates of blue green algae have claimed that spirulina is so nutritionally complete that one can live on it alone and be completely healthy!

Who is it for?

This superfood can be beneficial for horses on a dry lot, horses with heaves, coughing and respiratory troubles, horses under immune stress, show horses, those exercising at high intensity and frequency, horses recovering from illness, horses with a need for supplemental amino acids, and horses with prevalent environmental and dietary allergies.

For horses with EMS (Equine Metabolic Syndrome) and IR (Insulin Resistance), we recommend offering Spirulina in conjunction with our Hay Harmony {Cu:Zn} feed topper as Spirulina naturally contains iron (approx 2.9 mg per tbsp).  Studies have shown that Spirulina can help reverse metabolic disease, however, we believe it is important to carefully monitor iron, copper & zinc ratios to avoid iron overload, as well as, magnesium and chromium intake and sugar / starch intake for proper metabolic function and healthy insulin levels.
